A "lenda" dos dinossauros (parte 1)

O estudo da paleontologia tem crescido muito ultimamente, porém, existem pessoas ainda hoje que questionam se realmente os dinossauros (os mais famosos animais pré-históricos) existiram ou não, por mais estranho que isso possa parecer. Ou, se há a certeza da existencia desses animais, existem muitas dúvidas a respeito deles. O fato é que existem muitos fatos e mitos envolvendo os dinossauros, cientificamente - e biblicamente - falando...

Nesse artigo, iremos tratar exatamente disso. A intenção é deixar bem "cristalina" as questões acerca desses incríveis seres que Deus criou no passado. Na primeira parte deste artigo, tiraremos as dúvidas mais "simples" sobre esses animais, explicando até o porquê da real existência desses animais no passado. Na segunda parte, mostraremos alguns "fatos" sobre os dinossauros, e quais deles são realmente fatos e quais são mitos...  A última parte, não menos interessante, abordará a respeito da possibilidade desses animais existirem hoje - o que é fato e o que é mito nessa questão - esclarecendo, assim, todas as principais dúvidas que possa surgir sobre os dinossauros, tanto para o cristão quanto para o não-cristão.

ELES EXISTIRAM?

O jogador Denilson, há alguns anos atrás, alegou em uma participação sua do humorístico CQC, da Rede Bandeirantes, que os dinossauros são verdadeiras farsas e que os seus ossos são forjados. Se você, caro leitor, compartilha a mesma visão que o Denilson possui, continue lendo este artigo com bastante atenção, pois você certamente irá se surpreender. Mas se você diverge da opinião do Denilson, mesmo assim, não deixe de ler esse artigo, pois será bem interessante e pode até tirar algumas dúvidas sobre esses animais...

Em primeiro lugar, essas pessoas pensam que os ossos que os cientistas descobrem só são de dinossauros, e o erro já começa aí. Os dinossauros são apenas uma pequena parcela de toda a fauna de fósseis encontrada. Os animais fósseis tem um número e variedades grandes demais. Dê uma olhada em alguns fósseis já encontrados:

Alegar que os dinossauros não existiram - e que seus ossos foram forjados - é o mesmo que alegar que nenhum fóssil encontrado existiu de verdade. Fico pensando então, por exemplo, como é que teria se forjado o animal abaixo...

Ou seja, negar a existencia de dinossauros é negar todo registro fóssil.
Além disso, os dinossauros são achados com uma frequência tão grande em diversos países (desde o século XIX) que podem ser estudados com uma precisão muito boa; existem espécies que podemos ter certeza de seu aspecto no passado graças as evidências que temos delas.

O motivo, porém, de muitos evangélicos (a maioria é evangélica, infelizmente) de não aceitar a existência dos dinossauros, é simplesmente porque pensam que esses animais vão contra o que diz a Bíblia, e isso é mentira. Confira aqui a relação desses seres com a Bíblia que, de fato, existe.

ELES ERAM COMO SÃO MOSTRADOS?

Outro questionamento muito frequente é a respeito das representações artísticas desses animais em vida: como é que sabemos que os dinossauros são daquele jeito que é mostrado em filmes, esculturas, desenhos, etc, se dispomos apenas dos ossos?

Paleoarte é o nome dado justamente á arte de reconstruir a aparência de espécies extintas quando estavam vivas, e o ponto de questionamento, no caso, é justamente em cima da credibilidade das paleartes. O físico e pastor criacionista da Terra Jovem Adauto Lourenço, muito conhecido por suas palestras e vídeos, afirmou em uma de suas palestras que a paleoarte é feita baseada nos ossos dos animais mesmo, porém os demais aspectos do animal em vida, como a pele por exemplo, não passam de fruto da imaginação dos paleoartistas - o que está longe de ser verdade.

Para se reconstruir um animal pré-histórico não basta apenas ver um esqueleto e pronto... O processo exige uma "autópsia" completa em torno do fóssil e, além disso, existem algumas "pistas" junto aos fósseis que nos podem fornecer informações precisas de suas aparências: impressões na rocha, penas e peles fossilizadas (é raro mas pode acontecer), espécies aparentadas já descritas, ambiente, pegadas, etc... O carnotaurus, por exemplo, é um dinossauro cujo esqueleto foi achado praticamente completo mas, curiosamente, debaixo do esqueleto ficou a impressão perfeita do animal em rocha!

Observe que, após ver essas fotos, não se tem dúvidas de que a cabeça do animal era assim:

Ou seja, a aparência do Carnotaurus não é de modo alguma especulação, e a mesma coisa vale para muitas paleoartes. Mas, claro, alguma ou outra especulação existe, e elas, com o tempo, ou são confirmadas (por coincidência) ou são reformuladas conforme vão surgindo novas descobertas. Podemos citar dois exemplos interessantes que envolvem exatamente esses dois casos:

- Um dos primeiros fósseis a serem encontrados foram descritos por Gideon Mantell, e eram apenas alguns dentes similares a de uma iguana (porém bem maiores) e algo que parecia ser um chifre. O médico inglês, com base em seus conhecimentos sobre répteis e nos fragmentos encontrados, desenhou o Iguanodon como um animal que parecia mais um rinoceronte com escamas. Quando o esqueleto do Iguanodon foi achado completo, descobriu-se que a paleoarte desenvolvida por Mantell estava bem errada: o suposto "chifre" era o polegar da criatura (que parecia um esporão e devia ser usado como arma defensiva), e o animal tinha um aspecto bem diferente pelo desenhado por ele, podendo até se erguer em pé! Essa é uma prova de que a especulação falhou:

 E ao contrário do que alguns céticos tradicionais alegam, dizendo que os modelos feitos por paleoartistas desafiam a física, tais são claramente passíveis de terem existido e não são contra as leis da física, pois, se assim fosse, seria impossível reconstruir uma miniatura de dinossauro que parasse em pé!
